We are excited to be ‘Bringing Back the Affordable African Safari’. This is easily the best opportunity to experience the excitement of seeing the African wildlife in their natural environment – something we believe everyone should do at least once in their lifetime. This adventure is the perfect balance of history, wildlife + cultural immersion. Various accommodation upgrades and downgrades are available. See accommodation tab.
Arrive Johannesburg, South Africa. Transfer to accommodation. Spend the rest of the day relaxing. Blue Mango Guesthouse or similar.
An incredible day to give you an insight into all that makes this country tick. Includes Johannesburg City, Apartheid Museum & Soweto. The Apartheid Museum illustrates the rise and fall of South Africa’s era of segregation and oppression and is an absolute must-see.
Visiting provides a chilling insight into the architecture and implementation of the apartheid system, as well as inspiring stories of the struggle towards democracy. It’s invaluable in understanding the inequalities and tensions that still exist today
Soweto’s rich political history has guaranteed it a place on the world map. Those who know very little else about South Africa are often familiar with the word “Soweto” and the township’s significance in the struggle against apartheid.
The area has also spawned many political, sporting and social luminaries, including Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu – two Nobel peace prize laureates. Breakfast. Blue Mango Guesthouse or similar
You will depart from Johannesburg between 06h00 – 08h00 (allowing for various collection points). Your route takes you through the wide open spaces of the Highveld, down the escarpment and through the scenic Lowveld area. We have lunch in Dullstroom or Nelspruit.
Once we arrive in Kruger you have some time to settle in at your chalet, unwind at the bar or relax in the tropical gardens or around the pool. Later we board an open land cruiser for a 3-hour exhilarating sunset game drive during which you will experience the magnificent wildlife of Kruger National Park. Later watch the spectacular and breath-taking African sunset as the sun descends in the West.
After dark, nocturnal animals jump to life as our spotlight brings them into view. After the game drive, you will enjoy a sumptuous barbecue (bush braai) dinner in the boma and have the opportunity to share memorable moments with new friends.
After dinner, continue with the night drive after which you overnight in your ensuite air-conditioned chalet at Tremisana Game Lodge. Breakfast, dinner.
At the break of dawn, enjoy a cuppa and traditional African biscuits before driving to a remote location near the Olifants River from where you will enjoy an exhilarating 4 hour bush walk.
Your rangers will show you some amazing secrets and enigmas of the bush. Even though you are accompanied by armed rangers, expect some adrenaline rushes during this adventurous walk in the wild.
After the bush walk, return to base for a tasty brunch. Enjoy some time to rest, swim, read or do as little or much as you please. After a late lunch, it’s time for another fascinating game drive in Balule Big 5 reserve in Greater Kruger.
Dinner at the boma completes another amazing day in the African bush.
Brunch, dinner. Marc’s Treehouse Lodge.
Today is a full day spent in Kruger National Park on game drives. You’ll drive to the Orpen-Satara-Nwanedzi region in Kruger Park in a custom built open sided game viewer. You will view wildlife without the restrictions of intervening windows.
The elevated height of the land cruiser provides an enhanced game viewing experience that brings to life the sounds and smells of the bushveld. Here the open plains attract large herds of zebra, giraffe and antelope. These herds, in turn, attract lion and many other predators.
Expect a very exciting day in Kruger with many fantastic photo and video opportunities.
Breakfast, dinner. Transfer to Marc’s Treehouse Lodge.
After a hearty breakfast you have the morning free to laze by the pool, catch up on your favourite novel or simply sit by the lagoon and watch for any visiting wildlife. Keep those binoculars handy as you never know what you’ll spy. For the adventurous, you may like to organise a balloon safari!
Enjoy a light lunch at Tremisana before the afternoon game drive to the Tshukudu Game Lodge and embark on a game drive during which the chances of spotting the big 5 are pretty good. Return to our lodge for dinner and a peaceful sleep.
Breakfast, dinner. Marc’s Treehouse Lodge.
You will be taken on the full day of game viewing in Kruger National Park, take this day to tick off those animals you may not have had the opportunity to see or to revel in the excitement of seeing them again.
Sure to be another incredible day full of amazing moments as you keep those eyes peeled for mating lions, fighting buffalo, cheetahs on the lookout for their next meal or crocodiles sunning themselves on the sunny banks.
Breakfast, dinner. Marc’s Treehouse Lodge.
This is your final day of the bush safari and we start with an enjoyable early morning game walk with armed guard to explore the many animals that inhabit Marc’s Treehouse Lodge.
After breakfast travel via the Panoramic Route and marvel at some scenic splendour including the Three Rondawels and the Blyde Canyon.
Sadly the time has arrived to return to Johannesburg in the late afternoon. Breakfast. Blue Mango Guesthouse or similar.
Enjoy an authentic African experience on this half day tour. You will be taken to Lesedi Cultural Village, where you will enjoy the rich African culture first hand. The people of Lesedi have created an African ambience that you won’t find elsewhere!
Visit five traditional villages, listen to the traditional music being played and the fascinating stories told by the people of Lesedi. Enjoy a local South African tribal get-together and experience some traditional dancing.
After the traditional dance, head to the Nyama Choma restaurant to enjoy a great African Feast. You will have a lot to talk about after a cultural fun day in Lesedi! Onwards to the airport for return flight to home or on to one of our add-on adventures!
Please Note: We do NOT offer any tours or excursions to lion parks, lion breeding and lion cub petting facilities due to ethical reasons. We trust that you may feel the same once visiting the “Campaign Against Canned Hunting” website.

Inhale the fresh balmy air of African Bushveld. Fall asleep to the gurgling of the river, interrupted by the eerie whoops of hyena, wails of jackals and the cry of the thick-tailed bushbaby. Awaken to the melodious chorus of birdsong and watch the activity of wildlife drinking at the river or at the waterhole. Walk along the pristine banks of the perennial Klaserie River amongst huge Sycamore Figs and giant Matumi trees…this is Marc’s Treehouse Lodge.
In South Africa, as in the rest of our world, as human populations grow, so indigenous, pristine habitats are vanishing, along with their associated plant and animal species.
This lodge is for nature enthusiasts to immerse themselves in the bush, affording a fleeting chance to relax and let nature remove the everyday strains of life.
Marc’s Treehouse Lodge offers rustic but comfortable accommodation geared to put one in close contact with the sights, sounds and scents of the wild. The treehouses are made of wood and reeds under thatch and blend harmoniously into the dense riverine vegetation.
Creature comforts include electric fans, mosquito nets and comfortable beds, with linen, towels and soap provided. Each treehouse has its own private ablutions and has a viewing deck overlooking the perennial Klaserie River or the “Breakfast” Dam, where animals often come to drink.
Accommodation at Marc’s Treehouse Lodge is secure, comfortable and relaxed. There is a choice of 12 reed and thatch treehouses, 7 tented units and 2 brick and mortar chalets. There are 3 original treehouses that are not en suite but have private designated ablutions. These are built in trees or have trees as supports. The remaining 9 treehouses are not in trees per se but are built on stilts within the tree canopy and are located in the gallery forest.
Three treehouses overlook an illuminated waterhole, often frequented by our resident buffalo herd while nine treehouses are discreetly nestled in gallery forest along the river. Each treehouse is equipped with beds and linen, soap and towels, overhead fan, mosquito nets and wooden viewing deck. In addition there are two brick and mortar guest houses as well as seven equipped canvas tents for those of our clients that prefer these types of accommodation. Each tented unit has bed and bedding, electric light, fan and plugs and has its own deck. There are mosquito nets above the beds or on windows and door openings. The tented units share 3 showers and 3 toilets.
Marc’s Treehouse Lodge has a swimming pool, a bush bar and a rustic boma where 3 course meals are served. After your evening meal, which always has a typical African flavour, you can relax around the crackling campfire and share your impressions of the day’s wildlife highlights and adventures.
Upgrade to all nights on safari at Tremisana Lodge available.
Tremisana has a total of 15 chalets plus a two-bedroomed guesthouse and can accommodate a maximum of 40 guests. Every unit is en suite ( shower, toilet, basin ) and all units are air-conditioned. Every bed has its own Mosquito net. 24 hour WIFI is available to all Tremisana guests.
The lodge is serviced by two excellent boreholes. Tremisana is easily accessible all year round, including the rainy season. The presence of lions, elephant and buffalo necessitates the maintaining of an electric fence around the camp.
The staff at Tremisana are from the local villages. The supervisor, Delina Mnisi, has been here since 1996 and has worked her way up from general assistant. Delina is a talented chef and her home-made bread and mouth-watering soups have made her internationally remembered!
Upgrade to all nights on safari at Katekani Tented Lodge (with private splash pool) available.
Katekani 4 star Lodge is brand new. It boasts 6 spacious thatch and canvas chalets, with indoor and outdoor showers. Each magnificent deck is elevated to afford a spectacular view of the bushveld and has its own private splash pool.
The rooms are essentially semi-tents, with brick and mortar back walls and canvas front and side panels.
On a secluded piece of prime bushveld, bordering with the Big Five Kapama Game Reserve, each chalet has a thatched roof (which smells amazing if it rains!). The rustic ambiance is enhanced by liberal use of rocks and tree trunks inside the chalets. The chalets are very private and perfectly created to blend in with the bush. All are air conditioned and boast inside and outside showers. Sliding aluminium doors and windowed canvas panels blend perfectly to make this a unique state-of-the-art accommodation concept.
A modern Lapa with cosy inviting bar adds to the relaxed atmosphere and the BBQ area is conveniently located adjacent to the Lapa.
General game is encountered on the property and the bird life is prolific. At night the eerie whoops of hyena mingle with the deep-throated roars of the lions.
The staff have been selected from various 4 and 5 star establishments and bring a wealth of experience in pampering and entertaining our privileged guests while providing a relaxing and comfortable stay.
Upon arrival to your tented chalet, you will be delightfully surprised. I wouldn’t even call it a tent, it is more like a mini open-plan house. Huge bedroom, dining table, fridge, bath, two showers (one inside and one out). It is part tent, part hotel room and is gorgeous. I’m not one to usually splash out on accommodation, based on the simple fact that I don’t usually spend that much time there but this room embodies Africa and the view out towards the bush beautiful, that I actually felt sorry to leave it every day!
The lapa is a few metres away from the chalets and includes a cosy bar and BBQ area. Sitting around the fire of an evening, recounting sightings and stories of adventure is a great experience. The highlight of the restaurant is Mama and her amazing meals. Each time you eat there it will feel like you are eating at home and everyone will really enjoyed the South African cuisine – steak, veggies, curry and rice, milk tart and more!
Many say the highlight of their stay is Mama and her amazing food, some say TK going out of her way to make you feel comfortable and always available to answer your questions and others Victor. Regardless of your highlight, you are bound to experience the most friendly, authentically inspired accommodation that sits you in the centre of the African bushveld, totally immersing your soul in the country, the people, the reconnection and the incredible adventures we all come here to seek out. Enjoy!
